“Whatever do I do with this room?” This is a question I have heard many times over the 35+ years I have been an interior designer.
This particular client came in wondering the very same question. How do I place the furniture we need, in the space available, with the most seating, and still be comfortable enough to watch our favorite programs, as well as entertain?
I began with a space drawing of their room. First, we decided where the television would be located. We then noted the location of the doors and windows, as well as pre-existing pieces of furniture. Next, we discussed the color of the floor and the spectrum of colors that blended with the current items in their home.
I like to ask my clients what their favorite colors are, so we can incorporate those personal touches of color into the fabric, patterns and design decisions. With the base ideas in place, we then began to visit all the different vendors in Furnitureland South‘s vast 1.3 million square feet of showroom. We found exactly what they were looking for, keeping in mind their needs, budget and comfort level.
My clients chose this beautiful sofa from Huntington House. We selected a durable and comfortable fabric for the sofa, that insured comfort and durability for several years to come.
Next came the need for a cocktail table; I explained the benefits of selecting a leather cocktail table-ottoman, over a traditional table. With this option, they could achieve three goals:
- A place to prop their feet while watching their favorite programs
- Have a place to sit drinks or snacks, by using a tray situated on top of the ottoman
- Provide extra seating for guests while entertaining
They loved this idea, as you can see, the Huntington House ottoman made a beautiful addition to the setting arrangement!
We selected the fabrics for the pillows and chairs based on the sofa. We aimed to complement the fabric of the sofa, but also bring the colors they were dreaming about, into the room. We selected the seating from Huntington House, who is our number one vendor of upholstered furniture.
Then finally, we selected accessories to pull the room together, such as the extra pillows, rugs, lamps, occasional tables and floral arrangements. I love to design sitting areas for my clients. It gives me a chance to bring together beautiful colors and patterns into their lives. Let me know your dreams for your family.
